Founded in Oakland in 2015, Taqueria La Venganza was built on a simple and unapologetic mission: recreate the full-flavor experience of a classic late-night taquería—without any animal products. What started as a street pop-up on 15th & Harrison has evolved into a chef-driven, Latinx-owned taquería known for its bold vegan meats, hand-pressed tortillas, and street-food energy.
Our name, “La Venganza” (“The Revenge”), reflects our commitment to proving that vegan Mexican food can hit just as hard as the tacos you grew up on—smoky, spicy, charred, and deeply satisfying.
Chef Raul Medina is the founder and creative force behind Taqueria La Venganza. After leaving his career at an immigration law firm, he devoted himself fully to food, culture, and community. His approach rejects watered-down vegan cuisine and embraces the textures, flavors, and depth of traditional Mexican street food.
Medina crafts vegan versions of carne asada, carnitas, and chicharrón-style fillings with the same intensity and soul as their originals—earning him recognition across the vegan and non-vegan food scene. His work also extends to building a supply chain of vegan taco “meats” to help other taquerías serve plant-based options without compromise.
We focus on a tight, powerful menu built around nostalgia and authenticity:
